Delhi University's teachers and students on Monday launched a campaign to save age-old trees being eiher axed or replanted.
"This ground is home to one of the most exotic species of trees in the country. I will protect them at any cost." Jayathi.
How many trees are there on the Delhi University campus? What all species of insects and birds are generally found in the campus?
However the University admitted that the markings on the trees were done in a crude manner but also claimed that "not a single tree has been removed".
Even if some of the 1000 trees marked for DU's expansion plans escape the axe, they may not survive the callous hands that have already damaged them.
The issue of unscientific marking of trees in DU campus was taken to the media by Delhi Greens, as one of its first project to save the trees of Delhi.
"This is absolutely no way of marking the trees. I will probe the matter." Deepak Pental, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi.
