Delhi Greens wishes everyone a Happy International Day of Biological Diversity 2019!

On this day (May 22, 1992) the United Nations had adopted the Convention on Biological Diversity at a conference in Nairobi, Kenya. The International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated each year since 2011 on the anniversary of this date.

The International Day for Biological Diversity 2019 focuses on biodiversity as the foundation for our food and health. We share below a list of things that you can do to conserve and sustainably use biodiversity for your well-being, as being promoted by the CBD:

  • Reduce your meat consumption
  • Eat and purchase seasonal foods
  • Buy local foods
  • Reduce your food waste
  • Compost your food scraps
  • Reduce food packaging by using reusable bags or reusing glass jars or containers
  • Avoid single-use plastics like plastic straws, coffee cups, plastic cutlery, take out containers or plastic water bottles

On this day, we request all of you to think about the food you eat, where it comes from and the natural processes that go into making it. Happy International Day of Biological Diversity!
