Wetlands are also called the kidneys of the ecosystem since they perform the same function of absorbing and removing chemicals and substances not required by the body. Despite such an important role played by wetlands, their importance is seldom understood by the masses due to which they are being rapidly destroyed.

On 2nd February 2019, World Wetlands Day, the following Factsheet on the Importance of Wetlands was released by Delhi Greens at Yamuna Biodiversity Park to raise awareness about the importance of wetlands especially to the city of Delhi. The Factsheet has been prepared by the members of the project on creating an online interactive inventory of wetlands of Delhi and is edited by Dr. Govind Singh.
