Delhi Greens introduces a first of its kind
Urban Ecotourism in Delhi

Delhi Urban Ecotourism

The Urban Ecotourism Bus trip seeks to explore the natural heritage of Delhi and re-connect the citizens of Delhi to the green spaces in the city and highlighting lesser-known sites of ecological significance.

The Nature Conservancy defines Ecotourism as ‘environmentally responsible travel to natural areas, in order to enjoy and appreciate nature (and accompanying cultural features, both past and present) that promote conservation, have a low visitor impact and provide for beneficially active socio-economic involvement of local peoples.’

Further, ecotourism can be distinguished from nature tourism by its emphasis on conservation, education, traveler responsibility and active community participation.

Delhi is known to be one of the
greenest capital cities in the world. The city’s tree cover and the green spaces support a varying degree of urban biodiversity, unique to the National capital Region (NCR) of Delhi. The city has several big and small green patches, in addition to the Ridge and the Yamuna river flowing through it. The NCR also comprises a few protected areas, urban and rural villages, lakes and large number of water bodies.

Yet the ecotourism potential of the city is little understood, and least explored. Add to that the landfills, the resettlement, unauthorized etc colonies, the drains and the political ecology of urban planning & development – and we touch upon all of conservation, education, traveler responsibility and active community participation – needed to make an ideal ‘urban ecotourism’ trip to the most majestic city of all times!

Delhi Greens invites  all those who have ever been fascinated by Delhi, or are interested in urban environments and even those who are simply amazed by cities l!
